Kitsch Bar - Leederville

Menu
Asian-ey tapas with a quality drinks list.

Service
The service was minimalist and neither friendly nor rude - suiting the venue to some extent.  It was slightly inconsistent at times.  Late additions to the table had to wait to place drink orders and request cutlery.

Food
We ordered most of the dishes on the share-style menu and each was rated highly.  The meals came out quickly (this made us all pretty happy).  The food itself had a lot of spice and flavour, which didn't cater for all tastes in our group.  For a table of our size (figuratively speaking) I might suggest ordering double if you want to have a reasonable serve of each dish.  Avoiding the miniature pawn heads scattered through the pad-thai was a challenge in the dim light - but worth it.  The desserts were unusual and amazing at the same time.

Ambiance
The set-up is relaxed and incredibly hip - the perfect place to take someone if your out to impress in a 'I-didn't-even-try' way.  It has managed to avoid the wankiness that many venues of the genre are so weirdly, and wrongly, proud of.  The lighting consists of old lamps, lanterns and candles, the tables are low and the chairs are predominantly couches and backless benches which adds to the unique atmosphere but lacks comfort.  Our table was probably more suited to a group of 4 so most of us ate holding our plates.  But hey, a small sacrifice.

Value for money
Fantastic.  We all had 2 or 3 drinks, mains and dessert for $55 a head.  Winner.

Rock Pool - Burswood

Menu
Extensive.  Menu and wine list were a bit dizzying with choices, but there was something for everyone.

Service
The wait staff was lovely and referred to tap water as Perth water – possibly only entertaining to the foreigners at the table (me). The waiter, although a little OTT, recommended a lovely bottle of semi sav which also happened to be the cheapest!  Wine glasses never went empty and there was a constant flow of delicious warm bread to the table.  Napkins were refolded when we got up to use the toilets.  By dessert time, service began to get a bit slack.

Food
We ordered four types of potato sides and they were all incredible.  Sides, wine, break and butter were all AMAZING.
Steak ratings –
Wagu skirt 10/10
Sirloin on bone 8/10
Wagu top side 5/10

Ambiance
Walking into Rock Pool was like walking into a palace.  Through the heavy wooden doors, there was a gorgeous long candlelit hall with glass doors opening into the restaurant.  Groups of tables were sectioned off making the restaurant feel cozy and quieter than anticipated.  However, there was an incessant and terrible noise throughout a good portion of the meal.  We weren’t sure what is was at first, but learned something had gone wrong with the AC unit – nothing should go that wrong with an AC unit at a restaurant of this calibre.

Value for money
A bit pricey, but it was expected.  The meals were a good size and the sides were quite large and reasonably priced.    Aesop hand wash and balm in the rest rooms was a lovely extra. Really they had thought of everything.

Would go there again, but in the hopes that the air conditioning unit was working properly.

Score: 8.6

Frasers Restaurant – Kings Park

Menu
Something for everyone, but a little boring. Very typical ‘Modern Australian.’

Service
Waitress was fantastic – she offered us wine that was much better than what we ordered, and not really more expensive.

Ambience
Not to loud but I feel that we're a bit too far from each other. View is great! Toilets..immensely disappointing.

Value for Money
A bit pricey considering the size and quality of meals and sides. Desserts were amazing.

Food
Side sounds amazing, we’re ok…we’ve had better. Gnocchi was AVERAGE! The Mexican thought it was April Fool’s day.  It was a shame so many people ordered Gnocchi because it was a real let down. Meat was fantastic – and perfectly cooked!  Side salads were a bit small for what you pay!

Note: Couple getting engaged next to us added some excitement, but the girls lack of enthusiasm was a letdown considering we waited 30 minutes for him to propose AFTER we had paid our bill! Not to mention he didn’t even get down on one knee.

Would go there again, but not at my request!

Coco's – South Perth

Disclosure; although this was the July Diners Club Meet – and most of us were participating in Dry July, we drank wine, far too much wine so apologies for the briefness of the review : )

Menu
The wine list was longer than a Jane Austin Novel. The specials were amazing and there was definitely something for everyone.

Food
Fillet steak- 10/10- perfectly cooked, perfectly accompanied, perfect sauce. ]
BIG meals, high quality food, specials were incredible!

Service
Some staff members were not in uniform (dressed just like diners) this was a little confusing. One gentleman also had his shirt unbuttoned so far I was sure I was going to see belly button!  They were very attentive, polite and professional, our waitress especially who was fantastic!

Ambience
AMAZING! If I was served a macca’s burger overlooking that view surrounded by that decor I would be happy! It was a little loud, but the more we drank, the less we realized it.

Value for Money
*$100 off with entertainment card
Wine, entrée to share, mains totaled under $90 per person

Score
No one remembers! Sign of a good night? I think so J It was 9. Something. We all enjoyed ourself and as mentioned, the view was amazing.

Tony Roma's - Perth City

Tony Roma’s – Perth City

Menu
·          Extensive - I found myself slightly stressed on what to choose if I didn’t want ribs!
·         The menu did not cater to all our tastes – one guest only found a baked potato to their liking, and a piece of corn which the restaurant had than ran out of.
Food
·         Tasty -   also quite decent servings for most meals
·         Not enough chips with The Mexican’s meal, and Gemi’s meal could hardly be called a piece of cow!
·         Ran out of corn, but didn’t tell us until after order was placed
·         Well cooked steaks
·         Bread basket a plus - garlic dipping sauce also never fails!
Service
·         Trainee waiter really sweet and attentive (kept asking if everything was ok and offering drinks). Offered him an extra tip at the end due to such attentive service.
·         Waiter that spilt E’s cocktail = very average, also no offer for a re-fill. Was she supposed to lick it off her arm?
·         Reservation was incorrectly booked by Roma staff for the Wed not Thurs, but they accommodated us regardless without too much waiting, which turned a negative into a plus.

Ambience
·         Very noisy – I find myself talking louder than usual; and that’s strange!
·         Booth seating enjoyable, for booth seated parties. Other guests not as comfortable, but definitely not an issue. Had a slight diner feel about the restaurant.

Value for Money
·         Reasonable
·         $23-Steak + 2 sides = good value for money, and portion size.
·         $40 – steak = a little bit pricey given quantity and quality of food.

Score
6.25 / 10 – Would definitely go there again, however hype that was heard about this restaurant may have made expectations slightly higher than result that was delivered. It's really just fancy pub grub!
